So, all the hype was really for much of nothing..turning 30 wasn't all that bad after all.
In the morning, I woke up to my friend Karen's fantastic cleaning lady, Majena, at my door-- to clean the entire house from top to bottom. She was here for over 7 hours and did an incredible job-- the house was sparkling clean when she left-- what an awesome birthday gift (THANK YOU SOOO MUCH KAREN), but it was only the start of the day.
Mike did have to work, but we broke away for a little while to drop the dog off to be groomed, (grooming equals less shedding on the clean floors) and had some lunch. When we got back, I opened cards from Mike and the kids (very cute) and was given an awesome gift certificate for a 90 minute prenatal massage from Zazu's Spa in Wheaton. I can't wait to go use that! : )
Yes, I am a dork, but I took advantage of the time that Majena was cleaning to sort of clean with her-- I organized my desk, paperwork, and got all the laundry in the house done. What a freeing feeling to have that stuff off of my to-do list for the rest of the week.
At 6 pm, some friends came to pick me up and we all went out for dinner together and had make your own stir-fry. I created a very tasty dish with scallops, calamari, and shrimp in a slightly spicy sauce with udon noodles. After dinner, the girls all came back to the house for the dessert that Mike had picked up for us-- a huge key lime cheesecake from Costco. He configured 30 candles onto it somehow (without burning the house down) and served us all. It was fun to visit with friends and enjoy that night out together-- I am so grateful for such a wonderful group of friends in my life. Here are some pictures!
Angela & I-- I had to wear this beautiful crown that Lisa saved from her 30th....I can't wait to pass it on in January of 2010 when my friend Heather turns 30....
Me & Francy-- my eyes sort of look drunk here, but trust me, I was not-- I had only a Coke with my dinner. Francy is the one who had the martini!
Heather and I, making our stir-fry bowls....
Isn't it ironic that I would end up with number 30?
Francy shows her culinary masterpiece...
The girls-- Nancy, Angela, Francy (w/Karen's little guy, Landyn), Heather, Barb, Lisa, Karen, and of course-- Me.
My birthday cheesecake....with precisely 28 individual candles and a "Number 2" for a combined total of 30...
Check out the smoke....I have no idea how we did NOT set off the smoke detectors!
Mike serving up the goods-- with me looking really strange...still, I promise, I was not drunk! (Although I did have one little half-strength pina colada when we got back to the house)...
So, basically-- this was not a bad deal at all. If you are soon turning 30, don't be too worried about it...if you are surrounded by great friends and loved ones, it will turn out okay. : ) Thank you so much to everyone who called, came by, or even left a message on Facebook-- it really made the day special for me and I love ya!

looks like a great party - wish i could have been there!
